Even when Ozil is dialled in and trying hard, he's still a huge liability because he's almost always the weakest, least powerful and least athletic player on the pitch. He wins zero duels.

What makes this season particularly annoying is that we had had our own great feel-good comeback as we went from 10 points behind Spurs or whatever that was to a position where third place was on our hands and looking likely, slaying manU and Chelsea and playing very competent football in the process.

That we threw it all away, coupled with Tottenham, Liverpool, and even Chelsea overperforming in Europe, makes it a terrible season.

We can still salvage something out of it if we win the Europa League, but overall our act of melting away has left me most underwhelmed.

We have to win Europa now to rinse the taste of what Pool has done and Spurs are to do.

Beyond this I also don't see any special progress or development of players in relative comparison to what other managers would have done (Bar Mourinho because he's terrible)

For me, this shitty season, especially after last night, just makes it more important that we really identify what we want to do and not compromise.

We need to make sure we have the right elements in place, starting with the manager. Allowing another season of drifting, while our rivals continue to implement their style and play whilst improving, really will leave us in an incredibly deep hole to climb out of.

That has to come from the top. And they should start with the manager, he has a history of terrible results away from home and somehow the men in charge thought this would change. Then he goes on and leads a bottle job Spurs would be proud of. He should not be given a second chance if we do not win the Europa .

Problem being that most of these same players have been bottling it regularly for the duration they've been at the club - even Kos when he started was prone to brain farts in & around our area.

EDIT - that said there needs to be some very clear expectations / outcomes if Emery remains for next season both on and off the pitch, particularly if he is allowed to cull and rebuild as he wants. The price for failure will be that his 3rd year option is not taken up by the club.

I'd take a couple of years of 7th place (after this season) if it meant we have the right, exciting manager in place and a proper structure above him that makes the most of youth and we get rid of all the horse dung in our squad.

Well who's telling you that we aren't witnessing exactly that? I dont get this bargaining over "being shit for a time as long as we start to see an identity nurtured", an identity in place being instated at a club like Arsenal doesn't mean you finish 9th it's this exact result staring us in the face

People will simply bitch about anything as long as we're not winning, and even then they will find something to bitch about

And how would you know it was right until it was proven? You wouldn't and you'd be moaning the whole time in between.

7th was an exaggeration. Point being I'd be content with prolonging the dry spell a bit if it looked like we have a clue on the pitch.

I moan because the club doesn't give me a reason not to. I still remember when we were good.

There wouldnt be a dry spell if it looked like we had a clue on the pitch that's the whole point. Peps City didn't have 80% possession and lost games in his first season they looked like some poverty Frankenstein outfit. Klopps Liverpool didn't press nearly as well as they are now either, it's not like they played like this and the results came later it fucking doesn't work like that.

It takes time for any new methods to start sinking in especially with our brittle and damaged bunch.

We won't look good on the pitch until the dross is gone and the manager has the players that fit his ideology .

Better football will lead to better results. Unfortunately the process of re-building will be ugly and frustrating, not filled with exciting football.

The frustration will come from taking God knows how many more windows to bin the shite and thus allow us to rebuild.

If the club are going to restrict the budget and lack the desire to do more sooner rather than later, then just being able to shift the dross may see us unable to do so re the top earners until their current contracts expire and they then leave for free. As such we may be looking another 3+ years ahead, and I very much doubt that Emery will still be the manager beyond next season.
