Alright Mustafi Hill Gooner since you seem to know what's going on in Xhakas head riddle me this, why did Xhaka choose us knowing his level even though hes evidently not good enough for us.

They got away with Mascherano, a short central midfielder, playing there for years.

His passing from the back was very important to the way they played. His positioning and tackling were all top notch but indeed his height was an issue(although Barca had Abidal at LB, so it cancelled out). Short CBs have always been around though, Canavarro springs to mind, and I saw Ayala(another shortie but a monster of a CB) bully and ate Drogba for breakfast circa 2004

Blind currently plays for Ajax as a CB and is doing very well for them

Players aren't static entities they improve and get worse with respective coaching every day. Look at Fabianski one of the best keepers in the league now, Szczesny one of the best in Europe even, when they were here they'd shit the bed every other week.

Wenger used to let players figure everything out themselves, so unless you had a good understanding of the game like Vieira or Mertesacker you'd struggle under him. People want to hate Mustafi for fucking up so badly they're willing to ignore all circumstance so they can call him shit as if it made a fucking difference.

We wanted him after his shit season with Valencia says it all. Jokes on us letting Valencia fleece us.

I don't even hate him tbh, I just don't rate him at all after seeing him play for us half the season. But he got worse and worse and I'm fucking annoyed losing stupid points because of him alone. I'm always annoyed when there are totally shit players with no upside at all in the team, hence the criticism of Cech and Mustafi. Glad people realised it 3 years later thogh.

"Springs" is an appropriate word when talking about Canavarro as his leap was legendary.
I watched him is his early career at Naples and Parma.

This was when Channel 4 showed "Football Italia" every weekend soon after Italia 90.
His positioning, anticipation and reactions as well as his timing of tackles plus his composure under pressure were different class compared to these guys.

Think the one I remember the most was Ivan Cordoba back in those days. We nicknamed him "Jumping Jack". Such a short guy who had such an amazing jump.

I get the complaints about our attacking football, but Mkhitaryan was been shit since he arrived in England, Ozil has been going through the motions for two-three years, Iwobi is simply mediocre, and Ramsey has got injured again at the key point of the season. That just leaves Lacazette and Aubameyang.

How is he supposed to get good football out of that?

Dude, we just drew 1-1 with a Brighton team that has nothing to play for when we have Champions League glory awaiting us. He needs to get these players worked up to want to win. These Brighton players didn’t come out to bully us. They were there for the taking

But here's the thing - we were virtually in a position to secure champions league football. Never mind beating Leicester or Wolves, even if we just continued our good home form against Palace and Brighton, we'd be ok. As much as our squad is in serious need of quality, the same is true of all our rivals for the CL spots, ultimately the reason we collapsed is elsewhere.

This disastrous end to the league campaign has put a huge dent in my faith in Emery. If he doesn't deliver the EL trophy, I hope Raul is ruthless enough to show him the door.
