3 of the teams above him and the team below him are in the CL quarter finals. This is what Emery is competing with in his first season in English football, it’s super competitive.

we've had many periods of dull, unwatchable football during the last 5 or so years of the wenger reign. emery didn't turn an attractive footballing team into a dull one. he's figuring out how to get some points on the board with this weak squad.

Up until around 2012 it was still the consensus that Arsenal when on their game played the best football in England. After that it's pretty much been City.

And I dare say the media favourites at TH & LFC would also be ranked ahead of us of late.
IMO we've been poor for as long as AW decided to play high in the opposition half and that the number of passes made in the final 3rd was some validation akin to the top4 trophy, and I recall him describing our play as such in a 0-0 draw Away v Villa where he said he wanted everyone in the opposition half.

The reality is we are not an attractive side to watch other than a few highlights reel goals and some highly entertaining games each season, which are primarily entertaining to the neutral because we manage to make the absurd common place.

Agree, Arsenal have been a poor team to watch for a while. Emery hasn't come in and changed that. We were playing ineffective football for a long time. Right now we are playing the kind of formal designed to get us at many points as possible with the squad we have. It's not the highest visual quality but that's also a reflection on the squad we have.

I didn't begin to follow us because of a style but seeing my team do the best it can and ideally winning.

At our level if you're playing entertaining football the chances are you're playing relatively successful football too because by pretty much any definition of entertaining football you have to create more than an average number of chances.

In other words, it's not mutually exclusive. Entertaining football is just one method of successful football so it's not an easy thing to achieve.

He could be a checkered zebra next season. I'm expecting it to be better but it's likely to be a better version of what it is already rather than something completely different.

IMO we've found a compromise of sorts that is now beginning to work with this 3412 / 3421.
What I like about what Emery has done with our attack is to get more bodies into the opposition area = there were 5 for PEA's opener today & at least the same for AM-N's goal. We then changed shape to a 3421 with the 2nd half subs and played more on the counter when scoring the 3rd.

All credit to Emery and the team for rebounding from a really poor period. Looking as good as we have all season, just in time for a strong push for The Trophy and possibly Europa Glory.

there was a spell in jan-feb where the season was looking like drifting to a very wengery conclusion, but fair play to the team for rallying and turning their form around

I’m enjoying the guy. It’s great to have such a thoughtful manager. Just seeing how he bewildered Solskjaer was satisfying. And the team has a lot of very exciting passages of play. It’s also interesting to keep looking at how each line-up changes and the subs impact the game.

I understand where the really horrible football cane from. In the middle of a defensive crisis, he compensated by trying to endure we didn’t expose ourselves to counters. The result was putrid l, stagnant football. But there was abasis. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed beating our rivals, Rennes and various other games.

I think injuries in the defence disrupted the progression re the initial 4231 and it's taken some time to find a shape and selections that make the 3412 work.

By the same token as much as the club are looking to regain lost ground, so to is Emery looking to re-establish his reputation as a top flight manager on merit.

For me he's had the better of OGS / Mourinho, Poch and Sarri in his 1st season & has established his tactical credentials in doing so.
Whilst I understand the idealism of wanting to impose your play upon the game and opposition as seen with AW & most other top flight managers, IMO it has also been refreshing (as well as sometimes frustrating), to see the impacts of a more pragmatic and tactical approach reaping benefits with much the same players.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

I really like Emery. Just love his passion and he's classy.

I just hope he recognises that we should be dominating the ball a lot more, and not just have fleeting spells of possession. I hope we back him with signings.
