He has more left in the tank for sure but you have to wonder if Premier League is a great move for him at this stage. It seems like a bit of a gamble on Chelsea's part. He'd have to grab a few goals right away and then hope that the momentum covers up for his physical deficiencies. He did have one of the best Serie A seasons of any player in modern history under Sarri though.

Milan will reportedly replace him with Krzysztof Piatek for ₃₀ million. If I were Chelsea I'd have gone for Piatek instead right away. He's both a better striker (as far as this season goes) and a decade younger.

I think it’s less about long term practicality and probably more about the coach embedding his ideas immediately . This love reminds me of the early season Emery obsession with Banega, someone who could come in and model his system for other players.

Sarri is in a very similar position to Emery. He is under unrealistic amounts of pressure in a world where 6 doesn’t fit into 4 as far as Champs League places go. And this maths forces bizarre short-term thinking.

I can understand Banega, a midfielder who runs the game, or Jorginho, being pivotal to such a move by a manager. But Higuain doesn't fit that thought process - he's not an orchestrator. This is more about who can make an immediate impact and Sarri is probably thinking that a young Italian who has probably only played in the Serie A will find it harder to adapt than Higuain.
Edit: I agree that the 1 out of 3 into the CL is causing short-term thinking, just not with the fact that Higuain is about embedding Sarri's ideas into the team.

Higuain played for Sarri and was incredibly impactful for him. The two collaborated when Higuain broke the 66 year-old Serie A goal-scoring record with 36 goals in 35 games. If Sarri can find even half of that impact, then he will push Chelsea into the Champions League and delay judgment day.
So while, yes, Jorginho is more important to the organising ideas, Higuain is someone with a track record

He's a good player but that's just insane. Football transfers are completely out of order. What does someone like Mbappe cost in a world where Coutinho is worth €150 million and Allan is worth €100 million? Will he be the world's first €500 million transfer when Barca or Real come calling?

At the very least he allows Hazard to move back to the flanks where he is more effective, and with the quality supply Higuaín is a more proven reliable goal scorer - unlike Morata or Giroud.

TBH Kroenke has changed sfa since he first became majority shareholder, and nothing appears to have changed since he gained total control other than a lack of visibility. Just because he doesn't provide additional funds is not the current issue, as he could give us an extra 100m and we'd still not be able to spend it.
