Thoughts on Phil Dowd? Hasn't done too much wrong yet actually, although maybe should have red carded Carragher. Quite liked the "sit back and watch" style he adopted for the mélée at the end of the first half.

He's been shocking in all honesty. That tackle from Carragher was a straight red. By not sending him off he not only set a dangerous precedent - he indirectly encouraged Rafael to go in the way he did a minute later.

Now he's giving United the advantage in a tackle on the edge of the box, only to award them a freekick when they fail to score five seconds later.

The United fans that are watching the game with me have suddenly developed a huge interest in the Ireland v India cricket match.
