Agree with the overall sentiment but I don't think Guendouzi played at #10, he was pretty clearly told by Emery to stick to the left wing, not as a left winger but as a LM/LCM hybrid. Thought it was a good idea since it served to take him out of the dirty midfield battle where he still was too naive at times and of course it allowed him to use his full passing range by going infield which led to the goal.

If the general reports of our current financial situation are accurate I would try and put the bulk of our remaining funds into a ball playing defender first especially considering injuries and age of the players we have there, then a dynamic attacking midfielder who's comfortable playing wide. Özil should be that man in theory but then again who knows what the deal is with him at the moment. I'm not going to speculate about him or the club lying about his injury but getting sidelined when you haven't played in a couple weeks, after those comments ahead of the Spurs game, without any external influence is worrying

Surprised by the referee today. There was a point early in the game when Xhaka went to talk to him. I thought he would call the Huddersfield captain and ask them both to bring their men to order. He and his linesmen lost the game early, and hopefullly they are all shown the game tape to take learning points from it. The match was mishandled, leading to denied goals, goal chances, and too many dangerous tackles and cheating. I fully blame him for this.

Accurate description

On a serious note he was way out of his depth. Late in the game he got a bit better and I was genuinely surprised that he didn't give them a penalty for the Pritchard tumble vs Bellerin but before that he seemed to follow the usual PGMO guidelines of calling as much as possible against us, standard PGMO procedure especially when we're playing at the Emirates. I don't follow the remaining big teams as much but I'd be surprised if the others get as many bullshit calls against them at home

I went to the game and although i agree ref had a poor performance, he wasn't helped by his assistants especially the twat who waved Laca's goal offside.
Playing Guendouzi that far forward didn't work but i think he was making a point in dropping Mkhi and Iwobi.
With the benefit of hindsight, he could've played Xhaka higher instead and, possibly, avoided yet another yellow card.

The ref gave enough poor calls on both sides that I'd just call him pernickety. His assistants were terribad tho.

An interesting observation is that fans of other teams who watched the United match and to a lesser degree this one are really impressed by Guendouzi while we're kind of down on him. Not that the criticisms aren't justified.

They prolly watch relatively passively and are impressed by all his running and passing for a 19 year old. Ig it were his first appearance and us watching him first time, we'd be praising him too.

Guendouzi is impressive. But he still has exactly the issues that Mislintat said he would need to work on - running around aimlessly and breaking shape. Maybe Premier League fans love it, but it can be destabilising to a team. Watch Torreira's movement. Especially when we are defending. It's brilliant when he is doing rotations and picking up guys. He really covers opponents, and limits options. When we have the ball he stays within his zone as well.

I thought he was a little frustrating at times but he wasn't that bad at all. Tends to be an overreaction to anyone who has a frustrating game. A lot of things get overanalysed when we take until late to win but if Lacas goal had stood and we'd won 2-0 even with Douzi playing exactly the same way then I bet people would be saying he had a decent game.

A goal for him or a win even at Old Trafford wouldn’t change that.

The lad was one of our better players yet is getting slaughtered for trying to make something happen against a stubborn defence.
I know, amongst Arsenal fans, Torreira's shit doesn't stink but luckily he ran into "other people’s space" rather than covering Bellerin at RB otherwise the goal wasn't happening.

Obligatory compliment blah blah blah.. He is hugely talented and well ahead of his age... but does that mean that he is perfect or above criticism (especially as pertains to what I regard to be a crucial tactical attribute for a central midfielder)? I don't think so.

😆 I actually took heat when he first joined by tempering the excessive praise after he impressed in pre-season so i find it odd that i'm alone defending him from the mortar fire raining in.

Seriously though, he was the one who seemed most likely to make something happen and should have had an assist in the first half. The criticisms I've had about him breaking the team shape are less applicable to this match as he's not playing the same position.
