The Liberals (conservatives) have actually increased their majority. The Labor party put forward about 150 policies. They had a bold vision and plan to redistribute wealth and bring in some climate change policies (45% reduction for instance) but some of their policies were seized upon as tax grabs (eg a retiree tax on how shares are taxed), plus their leader was never, ever popular. In fact hardly anyone liked him, including more than 50% of his own party grass roots members.
After starting the revolving door of Prime ministers in about 2009 they implemented rules to make it much tougher to remove the party leader. Sadly though they should have removed this one.
He's now resigned the leadership.
Proves once more we are a fundamentally conservative mob who want a popular leader, or at least one who won't tax us too much.
The current PM - Scott Morrison - actually brands himself as ScoMo. It's a joke.
Also, in an amusing sidenote, the New Zealand immigration website saw a tenfold increase in visits by Australians the day after the election. Lol
