I suspect it’s because of the coming elections.
Nothing like a good ol’ American war to get you a solid bump in the polls.
True but Trump has been publicly against starting any more wars and seems quite keen to get out of the area. His Party colleagues may have other ideas though!

It's horrible here mate, but I'm lucky to be in a safe area in town. One of the worst Victorian fires is only about 40kms from here though and there are lots of friends, families etc that have been more directly affected, so that makes it real enough. The temperature has dropped today but the sky is orange and the air is just thick with smoke. I've experienced bad fires here before but nothing of this scale. It's going to be a long and painful recovery for lots of people and communities once the imminent threat is over. I can only hope this may all lead to some serious policy change, but I think that is unfortunately unlikely.
Sorry to hear that mate, it really looks scary and end of world kind of stuff. Hope the country pulls through but hearing it has been crazy hot in the last few weeks as well. With so much smoke and fumes in the air I hope there are no long term health implications.
Heard about people giving the PM an earful while he has been out. He's come across very badly after this, at times like this you look to the leaders to bring people together.
