I could take losing to United if we beat Spurs.

I would rather have the win v. Spurs and a draw v. United away. If we beat Spurs, we leap over them in the table (theyre up 3 pts with the same goal difference) - at least for the week

Tottenham were brilliant against Chelsea but I think their stock is inflated as a result. The home game is definitely the one to aim for a win.

Compared to last season we have improved and an unbeaten run shows resilience and togetherness, things we did not have last year.

Let’s see what happens v Spurs/Man Utd but I think ppl forgot how bad the last two years under Wenger were.

Never! They have only beaten us once at Emirates and that was 8 years ago which took a long time to get over!

So let's win more games then. Compared to us, all of our rivals except United have done better this season. Hammering on about going unbeaten for a while has absolutely no value in the real world. We are a few measly points better off than we were at this point last year (despite having a much better squad than the one we started last season with), we have glaring flaws throughout the team, and Emery still doesn't seem to have the faintest clue about how he wants to line up 6 months after taking the job. Those are not comforting facts.

What is also very discomforting is that 6 months into the job, we still defend like a bunch of fucking amateurs and he seems to not have any clue what to do about it.

Any two-bit player who pings a ball toward our goal automatically creates a chance, it's ridiculous. I can't remember the last time I saw a defensive line this bad at defending the space behind them.

I'm the other hand the way we closed out the game was admirable. We didn't puff our chest up and pour forward. Or shrink our chest and get pinned back.
We held our shape and good balance.

the Doozy came on and our shape went to bits. Also, for some reason in the last minute a single long ball is sent to our half and lands in the middle of a whole uninterrupted battalion of Cherries just outside our box.

I think the 'balance' of our season atm is that we are still very much a work in progress in terms of performance, but at the same time the performances get a pass so long as we're achieving results, and I suspect that will continue to be the theme for this season. However next season we will be expected to perform to match the results.

EDIT: I'm somewhat excited to see what the team & squad will look like if Emery is able to get the type of players he wants that suit his style. As such I expect that it may well be at least a 3 year plan to do so if our starting budget is going to remain around the 50m mark until we regain CL football.

I think that early on, grinding out points from losing positions felt more of an achievement when others in the top 6 dropped points as it led to us climbing the table. Now that the others have gone above us again on their winning streaks, there is only so much positivity to extract. The players looked rejuvenated and confident at the beginning of the run, but that seems to have ebbed away as the games have progressed. To come back from bad positions virtually every game must take a mental toll on the players and be dispiriting when it doesn't lead to movement up the table.

A win next week we are in the top four again, a point behind 3rd. We’re not exactly mid table. Being able to maintain that mentality and some level of consistency is what it’s all about. That’s how you win titles and these days that’s how you get top four.

I guess that assumes we win and so do Chelsea? (i think Chelsea's win v. Fulham is sorta a gimme, so i guess that's fair)

They didn't score so Guendouzi was help enough.

Anyone playing midfield with Xhaka has to do the running of 2 players especially when Xhaka is playing to avoid the inevitable booking he always gets when too slow in an attempted tackle. He knew a yellow would mean missing the derby so Torreira had to run himself into the ground covering him. That's the only reason i can think of that Emery took him off while we were trying to protect the lead.
Also, Bournemouth didn't just lie back and take it in the last 10/15 minutes. They brought on attacking players with would have affected our shape whether or not a tired Torreira stayed on the pitch.

I don’t have any issues with Torreira going off. Thought he looked pretty tired leading up to the sub.

My problem was bringing on Guendouzi. Bloke looks like he’s got a lot of things going for him, but defensive nous and stability are not it. Would have preferred AMN to get a run but for whatever reason Emery just isn’t giving it to him. I’m hoping he’s still easing him back from iniury.
