Anyway, I agree with the notion that he has a lot of potential from a technical/attacking POV.

He's a sharp and fast passer of the ball, and has a decent range.

I think he used to be an attacking midfielder before, which also explains his handy footwork and shooting.

With Torreira it's not the physical burnout I'm worried about as much as the mental one. He's 23 and has been playing non-stop sicne he was 19 without any summer breaks. It's not feasible with our squad looking the way it does, but I think we ought to give him a month off at some point. You could see the collapse coming last season before he had even put pen to paper.

Maybe that's why he's been given a relatively light introduction to this season?

Torreira has not started a match yet this season. Emery has given him 36 minutes in total. He is one of a number of players whose pre-season was impacted by an international tournament and that can understandably play a part in team selection. Torreira was on Copa America duty until late June. For comparison, though, his fellow midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was with the France under-21s until a similar time during the summer and has played 266 minutes for Arsenal this season. Nicolas Pepe was with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations until quite a lot later, mid-July, and has played 153 minutes of his maiden campaign in England.

Small players generally need at least one elite attribute - I don't believe Torreira has one, but it's cool if you disagree.

I think we could play torreira and Willock to some effect, but I don't know when you would try it out.

There'll be plenty of games to try out different combos as we go into November and December. I'm really excited about what this season could yield. Other big teams also try out different looks in midfield, so nothing wrong with us trying the same.

Xhaka has a couple of oustanding attributes. It's the plethora of shit ones that make him dog shit in the Premier League, however.

Must get rid ASAP.

Personally I'd get rid of Xhaka and Torreira but I know for the latter that isn't a popular opinion here. I like him but don't think he'll ever be an elite player, he is however a very good player.

Can't be a very good player if you want to get rid of him. More likely you think he's a decent player but not a good one.

Not at all, he is a good player but imo we need a complete rebuild in central midfield. We struggle to control games in midfield whether that is in an attacking sense or defensive.

That’s down to Emery’s style more than anything else. We don’t try to control games.
