When Kane is playing as he is today it's tricky to maintain interest in him as a player. He's a bit unexceptional and like a climate-sensitive vegetable, requires specific conditions to thrive.

Englands 5 man defence is very solid though. I think most teams will have real trouble breaking it down.

You say that but a very poor Swedish team forced Pickford into 4 good saves (hugely overrated saves but still). And they've played nothing but rubbish teams in every other game and conceded every time.

Every time Sweden got into England's third they looked like they could do damage, the problem was they had no midfield and couldn't get there often enough. And even though I haven't watched a minute before now, I'd wager it was the same in the other games.

True but rubbish teams or not England have struggled in international tournaments for nearly 3 decades. The monkey had to be dealt with some how and this lot have achieved more than the golden generation have despite being worse footballers. That counts for something.

They've been insanely lucky with the draw. Not much more to it than that in my view. Although I'd add the low level of expectation pre-tournament took tons of the pressure off too.

Well, yes, a knock out tournament is at least in part driven by luck....
