I can't really blame Hierro. He was not brought in for his job, and was stuck with it at (almost) literally the last minute. I'm not surprised Spain is out this early, but I am surprised it was at the hands of Russia.

Don't think it's Hierro's fault. Spain have perpetually been the same at most tournaments - barely a game that they didn't win 1-0. The issue this time was that De Gea and the defense screwed them over - the number of individual mistakes from Ramos and Pique contributed directly to their downfall. Russia, for instance, wouldn't have had a sniff if Pique hadn't made that stupid handball.

Thought some of the lineups were well dodgy, completely imbalanced in several games and the subs made little sense. Seemed like he just picked based on reputation mostly
