I'd just have him as squad depth for now. He's still only 18, he's got a big change to break out and even if he doesn't you'd probably still make a profit on him after a couple of years.
Agreed like Chambers who will have a higher value now.
We’re not currently in a position where we can afford to sink money into players who clearly aren’t ready to have an impact, certainly at squad level if not immediately in the first team. There are just too many issues to resolve to speculatively spend money on players hoping they come good or turn us a future profit.
I reckon Sessegnon is actually a good example of why. I wouldn’t say it’s objectively a bad investment, he has shown promise and may prove to be a solid Premier League level player in coming years. However it’s a bad fit for us. As Ricky pointed out he hasn’t been playing as a left back and wouldn’t necessarily strengthen us there as I can’t see him being good enough to overcome Kolasinac, and what we need is someone who can really push Kola on if not take his place in the team. And Sessegnon is certainly not at a level I’d consider would make a difference further up the park. I’d be far more in inclined to blood the likes of Saka than investing in Sessegnon.
I’m not against investing in youth, but our budget is won’t be sufficient to make those sort of investments and bring short term improvement to our first team. Getting the first team back on track is the priority. We should be mindful of resale value and factor this into the search, but speculating on youth players is why we've ended up with the likes of Chambers in the first place.
