I was right about them settling for a 0-0 draw.
Anyway we stuffed up against Peru. They played smart, and have the quality up front we lack. Great first goal from them and two deflections for their second - the first to get the ball to Guerrero and the second form his shot to take it away from Mat Ryan.
I think Peru had no more than 3 or 4 chances and scored 2. The Aussies had 4 or 5 chances and scored none. This is our problem. In 2006 when we had probably our best ever squad we snuck out of the group. Back then we had 13 players playing in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A. This year we have 2 playing for lower level Premier League teams and 1 for Hertha in the Bundesliga. None in Serie A or La Liga. That's a huge drop in quality.
Tom Rogic is probably our most talented player but has just signed a 5 year extension to stay at Celtic. Our previous great Celtic player Mark Viduka knew Celtic was a stepping stone, not a resting place. Rogic lacks the killer personality to make it at the top level and is content being a big fish in a small pond.
Hopefully Arzani manages hi career well. Josh Risdon and Trent Sainsbury should be able to get decent moves as well.
It was a shame Mass Luongo didn't get a single minute. He is a player who knows how to score recently.
I think I would now love it if Argentina knocked France out.
