Watched his highlights against Portugal and looked like exactly what we needed - a positionally adept disruptor, with decent enough ability on the ball. A player like him makes our defenders jobs easier

I think this is the reason nothing has been announced yet too. The Sampdoria president who claims it's a done deal can only speak on behalf of the club. Torreira's agent has probably told him to wait and see if better clubs than Arsenal get in contact with them after the World Cup. This might be why we showed interest in Banega too.

I wouldn’t normally worry much, we’ve had this sort of delay happen before with plenty of players focusing on their country etc, I seem to recall Nasri being one. What has me slightly worried though is Ornstein saying we are hopeful but have other options if it doesn’t happen. Doesn’t make it sound like it’s s sure thing to me.

Ornstein ruled out Benega, Klaus.
