The more I think about this the more I like it.
I was one who wanted him after his work at Valencia and Sevilla.
I think the issues at PSG would best most managers - that said he also had some good results against Bayern/Ancelotti as well as Barca/Enrique.

He may not be considered amongst the elite managers but IMO he could very well be the manager we need. IMO it is crucial that we do not either over or under state our position. By this I mean we should not be talking about wanting/needing top class players before we regain top4/CL = we do not put the cart before the horse. At the same time we should be looking to maximise the opportunity we have with the talent we have, and more importantly that our Home form demands we are capable of.

I feel the same way, I've definitely warmed to it.

Read a piece in the Guardian that highlighted his ability to bring through and develop young players at PSG, which is an aspect of him that I that I didn't know about.

Crucially for Arsenal’s philosophy as a club, Emery, despite rampant short-termism in Paris, managed to maintain a degree of focus on youth. His development of Adrien Rabiot from an inconsistent, naive ball-playing midfielder to the physical, confident, box-to-box marauder he is at his best today should be applauded. While the introduction of 22-year-old French centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, now arguably PSG’s best defender, and Argentine international Giovani Lo Celso is also a credit to Emery’s faith in youth and his ability to evolve talent.

I'm definitely in the 'realistically the best we could probably get' camp. There's some particularly appealing aspects of this appointment and I'll be looking forward to the season and a fresh approach.

Emery is an interesting choice. I don't know too much about him, but he did well in Spain. I also loved the way PSG played under him. Of course, that may be in part a consequence of the players in the squad and not necessarily the manager, but PSG played some lovely football. Quick passing, good movement off the ball, always trying to create space and setting up passing triangles. Let's hope he is ruthless with some of the dross in the squad.

I doubt Emery will struggle with egos in this squad. Mainly because, with the exception of Auba, there's no one that the fans and board will back over the manager

There was a quote from him I was reading that I can't find again atm, where he sounded very much like AW in he was saying about having a responsibility to play attractive football and something about just making 20m for being in the CL is pointless to the fans. That sold me as much as anything he has achieved.

Even in Ornsteins story about Emery he says Arteta was annoyed that he wouldn't have control over transfers. Its not just change, its radical change and a real move to modernise the club.

Bit hard to believe that Arteta would be annoyed at not having full control over the club, he's not exactly in a position to be making demands is he.

On the other hand Emery is very much used to work with a sporting director both at PSG and of course with Monchi at Sevilla. Gazidis did very well, while it's tabloid journalism I can definitely see Emery blowing the board away with his knowledge of our lot and knowing him he probably didn't even need to prepare anything beforehand.

As you said qs this appointment couldn't be further from what we've seen from Wenger. In game tactical changes playing different formations meticulous studying of the opposition, genuinely bewildered what's going on in your mind if this is considered "more of the same".

This is what has me excited, the idea of a meticulous tactical, detail-oriented manager who isn't constantly getting gazumped by some stupid trick like putting Rooney on the press in midfield.

It's funny how a manager's image can change so quickly. Emery became something of a laughing stock after the Barcelona loss and this year still not getting past the first knockout stages. I'm guilty of having thought of him as a joke myself. Still though, I thought he was a good manager before PSG appointed him, and changing my opinion of him so drastically because he went out to Barcelona and Real Madrid isn't really fair. I think part of it is also that I'd spent some time on getting behind the Arteta rumour, because to get behind that you would have to believe in the fairytale potential. Just when I did just that the rumours of Emery started going around. After I've proccessed it, it's quite obviously a much better appointment than Arteta, and the only reason I was disappointed at first is because I had created an improbable image in my head that Arteta would be the new Guardiola.
