It would be nice to be linked to a player that's not shit at some point this transfer window.

Who do you consider not shit DKF? I swear I'm not asking just to say he's shit

Skriniar, De Ligt, Pavard, Mukiele, Upamecano are some of the more obvious names. There's no particular shortage of impressive young footballers in the world.

Sokratis + Soyuncu - Mustafi is honestly not great CB business. Who is the starting CB combination for next season? Sokratis feels like good backup (and constantly injured) and can't really throw a 21 yr old with no PL experience in the deep end immediately. Feels a little weird to not buy a Manolas-type CB who would be an instant starter.

please don't this squat looking motherf'er be our first post wenger signing. that would be more of the same mustafi bullshit signings.

Sokratis is terribly average, and that's overrating him already based on how bad he is past 2 seasons with Dortmund.

Everything about this signing is Squillaci 2.0.

True

It was all going so well for Mustafi till the last stat 😆

Swear our scout bought him based on everything, without selecting the last stat 😆

I really don't like the idea or structure of buying players without input from the manager. I know we're acting in a difficult summer and a reduced window, but I think it should be down to the manager to ok his own signings.

Narrative now seems to have changed to us having moved to Sokratis as a target since Soyuncu is too expensive for us. Only at Arsenal.

Mustafi is actually very talented but lacks concentration.

Not really and I bet no one had even heard of the latter here till he was linked with us.

Maybe we can do something similar with Mavropanos-Sokratis as Atletico are doing with Gimenez-Godin.

Skriniar and Upamecano are outside our price range already, de Ligt probably too and most likely headed to Barcelona anyway. Generally speaking I wouldn't mind the rest either (or the ones mentioned before obviously) but this signing is supposed to be more a ready made centre half which none of the others bar Skriniar would be.

Anyways spending big on defenders is a fool's errand anyway if we don't have a manager in place who can coach a defence.

I remember when Squillaci was a "ready-made" centerhalf.

Squillaci was a journeyman who was okay for a while and turned to shit long before we signed him, stupid signing by any measure. Sokratis is coming from a mixed season because all of Dortmund was shit but until last year he was consistently one of the best defenders in Germany for years.

We need one cheap and one expensive defender this summer. As far as cheap defenders go, Evans and Sokratis are both way above the standard you'd usually find.

The real question is who's going to be our new defensive linchpin.

Maybe Cissé is the one spitting up!

lets assume that we are going to play 4 ATB next season, not 5. in that case, we essentially need 4 centerbacks we can play regularly. right now, we have

mustafi
kos (probably out for most of next season, but still on the wage bill, obviously)
chambers
holding
mavgreekguy

so, we basically have 4 healthy centerbacks. if we bring in 2, then you can posit that 2 will leave. mustafi and chambers now have a decent amount of games under their belt. holding could have gone on loan last year. mav seems like he might be a loan option. if we sign sokratis, you can basically slot him into the kos spot in our squad depth. that still leaves 5 healthy guys for 4 spots.

unless we sell mustafi, i cant see us buying more than 1 CB this summer

I do expect us to sell Mustafi. Two years down the road and he's still worse than when we signed him. I mean bloody hell.

hey, im 100% supportive of that, but im skeptical it will actually happen

We might be able to get some money out of his parents if we play it like a hostage situation.

id bet we can get £20m for him. maybe one of the german CBs will pick up an injury before the world cup, he'll go and have a blinder and then we can get £30m for him

If one of Hummels, Boateng, Rudiger or Sule is injured, Jonathan Tah is on standby to replace them.

Mustafi is not needed.

please dont ruin my dream

Saw Bild is quoting a price of around 20 million euros for Sokratis. Is he worth that much?

Thought Jonny Evans was worth like 3m pounds or something after West Brom got relegated.

Agree with that evaluation Bryant, I too estimate Evans worth to be 3m pounds of dogshit
