Which makes it even more baffling as to why Pepe can’t get in the team, he has the most assists/goals/chances created bar Auba. Can only think it’s to do with fitness, in which case why play him in the FA Cup over the PL.

To defend the midfield slightly they have created chances that have not been converted, yesterday Xhaka provided a lovely ball for Auba which he shanked terribly.

Auba has always missed a few and yet he's still one of the most lethal strikers around, you need to create 3 or 4 good chances for every goal. 1 or 2 good passes a game isn't enough.

And why not bring him on when we are crying out for him? He's not perfect but he does a lot of things we lack and its not like he's behind Henry, Pires and Ljungberg.

There was a game a few weeks back where Ozil made about 3 good chances, not one was converted. Sometimes a midfielder can have a really good game but have nothing to show for it i.e. no assists or goals. But generally I agree that creatively we've been very poor from the midfield.

His die hard fans have went from defending him with his big name promise to blaming other players to using statistical outliers.

Now they just include him in their dream starting lineups with no justifications anymore. Honestly struggling to think of a more useless player who have accomplished nothing great with a team and yet have such a big fanbase defending him. It's not like he had goodwill previously from his tenure here. Weird

Surely Arteta saw enough to know Ozil is well and truly done in his last game as Pep's assistant, versus us.

I'm confused as to why he continues to start him.

I think ozil is actually giving it a go nothing has come off for him. But after a 2 year break from football it was always going to take a while to knock the rust off to see what's left under there. He looks almost nothing like the old ozil.

He needs to be creating 3 or 4 in ever game, thats his main job. How many good passes to danger did he make yesterday, and weigh that up against how many moves that broke down with him. The fact you had to go to a game weeks ago is telling. No assists from open play all season is on Ozil not the forwards.

😆 Seen that a few times. So weird. He's easily the worst player in the first XI and its not like he's a kid with promise, that I could deal with it. Instead we're playing this zoned out has-been for no apparent reason. Willock looked extremely raw when he came on yesterday but was still a huge improvement over what Ozil had been serving up.

he looks physically washed. ozil actually used have a decent burst to separate himself from markers, but that's completely gone now

He never had any awareness about where the side of the pitch was. But is awareness of what's happening around him just isn't close to what it used to be.

His movement has gone too. People have this idea of Ozil slipping passes between the centre halfs at his best but his real strength was finding pockets of space and then playing passes from them, he's never really been one for sitting behind the strikers and slipping them through, more that he'd buzz around them and go beyond them then slip them a pass from somewhere the defence didn't expect and couldn't deal with. Its why Wenger was trying to turn him into a goal scorer.

There was so many times Auba and Lacazette made a run on sunday when Ozil is on the ball and not only did he not spot it, he passed it back. A peak Cesc would be more useful for us now than peak Ozil

Ozil is a problem for the same reasons Douzi was a problem under Emery, and it's simply that his status within the squad is bigger than it should be. If he wasn't starting every game it wouldn't be an issue.

The difference is that Douzi has some potential upside regarding his future, while we just can't get rid of Özil.

That's another issue though. The point I'm making is that managers, and Wenger used to be guilty of this as much as anyone, make a players form or ability a bigger issue than it really needs to be by continuing to pick them in the starting XI week in, week out. I don't think it helps the team and I don't think it always helps the player.

the club conferred that status on him with that silly contract. benching him is the sound option, but the club haven't made that decision easy on the coach
