Özil not only covered the most ground, but also had the highest average speed and most ball recoveries of any player on the pitch yesterday.

Aside from the extra effort stemming from, in my opinion, a belief in the ideas and the competency of the coach and a belief that running hard is part of a wider plan that will bring success, I think Özil is playing better because he is one of the best transition players I've ever seen and now we are winning the ball in midfield and also moving quickly from back to front again. That has always been his style and his strength.

You're right to a certain extent, but Lacazette was the key to our pressing success. Surprised how high his defensive stats was. Basically become our Welbeck.

Welbecks pressing never worked though, it was headless chicken stuff. As much as Lacas feet seem to have abandoned him lately his pressing, battling, off the ball movement, etc are all still really great. If he could get a goal or two and regain his confidence then a Pepe, Laca and Auba front 3 could run riot.

He'll score a few at some point - that's a given. It's his all-round play that needs massive improvement; passing, dribbling, decision making.

While I have little faith Ozil's form or attitude will maintain, I'm glad that we are at least getting something from him at the moment.

Yeah I'll reserve judgement until he's played double digits under Arteta. We've had too many false dawns with Ozil.

Pressing is a team effort though, a lot of the time he was doing it on his own. Welbeck in the cup final gave Chelsea's CBs hell with his constant press and cutting off their passing options.

Welbeck was limited in a lot of ways but his pressing and following instructions was one thing he was good at.

We are looking for a creative mid and everyone says he is the most creative but these days he get praised for efforts in running. Low bar.

Hopefully Ceballos excels under Arteta and displaces him. Otherwise we need a serious 10 in the summer.

Involved in our first goal but overall really poor and it's not just his effort or intensity.

I think having both Ceballos and Ozil on the field simultaneously will help this system. Folks may be worried about Ceballos up top, but I think that’s the answer, wirh Aubameyang central. We need to find players who can make sure we progressively move the ball towards goal and get chances.

That sounds awful to me. Our wingers need to be wingers, they need to be quick and have end product. Neither Ozil nor Ceballos offer those things. One of them at 10 and proper wingers out wide is the only way for me.

I'd try an inverted midfield 3 with Ozil closer to the supply in transition - particularly in Away games. I think his off the ball movement into space could provide more effective passing options closer & make our transition quicker.

He is a busted flush. Like much of our midfield it doesn't really matter how they are configured we lack quality there. We have a toothless lack of incisiveness in the midfield with no running beyond. We do what Arsenal has done for years nice passing in front of the opposition followed by loading patience and hitting a long ball or trying to get a full back to overlap.

Too predictable and requires us to change the personnel to affect real change.

Ozil has 0 G- 1 A.
Xhaka has 0 G- 1 A.
Ceballos has 0 G- 2 A.
Torreira has 1 G - 1 A.
Guendo 0 G - 1 A.
Willock 0 G - 0 A.

As much as we talk about our defence, I think the bigger problem is in the middle of the park. And to top the offensive stats off, they also offer next to no protection for our defence, they can't control a game, they can't pass while under pressure, they don't win the ball back as much as they should or as fast as they should. None of them are athletic enough to drive forward with the ball, and they are prone to stupid mistakes while in possesion that lead to us conceding goals.

So much work to do here...I don't even know where to start from.

The midfield has been much better defensively but there is zero creativity from it. David Luiz plays more good balls to the forwards than Ozil and Xhaka these days.
