No creativity no assists no goals no work rate no attitude no fitness have mysterious injuries and creates controversy for the club. On 350k and costs over 40m in transfer.

If not for 35m Mustafi and his half a season of world class football he would have been the worst pound for pound signing we ever made. Handicapped the club for decades in the transfer window

Yeah it's been clear for a long time he's lost any passion for football and is just a dead wait to the team on the field. Off the field he's undoubtedly a toxic influence and a massive waste of funds. Needs to be shipped away as part of any attempt to rebuild a team with the right characteristics.

Yup. We'll likely have to cover some of his massive wages, but still better to spend those funds elsewhere. At this point, there are probably 60-100 better AMs in the world than him. Luxury players with no end product aren't very good...

You know what’s crazy. As shit as this guy has been the last 5 years, he will finish this decade as 5th highest in league assists in major European leagues. The top 5 are
1) Messi 144
2) Muller 130
3) Di Maria 129
4) Suarez 124
5) Ozil 116

5th despite going on holiday for half the decade.

More of less. This guy fell off a cliff. He was phenomenal from 2010 to around 2016. His game evolved a bit from an all around forward like De Bruyne to the elite pure playmaker. And then he just stopped being effective the last 3 or so years. It’s been sad to see. I have a lot of respect for what he’s done before. English commentators dismiss him outright because I don’t think they really appreciate his time outside England.

Maybe you just worded it in a funny way but I think his development was the exact opposite. He was a highly specialised cog in the Madrid machine, a final ball merchant when he was more than that before Mourinho. Under Wenger he developed into a better and more complete attacking midfielder until 2016/17 when he stopped giving a shit.

Just thinking back to his Werder days when he was younger. He shot much more. I think in his breakout season he had about 10 goals and 16 assists.. He scored some important goals too early on in the German cup final and the euro u21 final versus England etc. when he joined Madrid I think he adjusted to his circumstances. With the attacking riches it was like shooting fish in a barrel, so he could just rack up chance creation numbers.

You could tell Wenger thought he could get that pre-Madrid Ozil back again too, played him more or less as a second striker and talked constantly about adding goals to his game.

He’s lazy. Has always been. Now he doesn’t produce enough to justify his laziness. Really really hope Arteta doesn’t waste time shuttling him out of the club in January.

I'd agree with this except for the final sentence. Second half of 15-16 and for odd streaks in 16-17, he was decent. Remember, we were mostly happy for him to re-sign in Jan 2018. Since then he's been utter crap.
