Of course he's training. If I have an old car that I want to sell before it breaks down I have to give it a drive regularly or it deteriorates even more.

Arsenal want to loan out Mesut Ozil in January - even if they have to subsidise his wages.
World Cup winner Ozil is Arsenal’s top earner on £350,000-a-week but is a bit-part player under Unai Emery.
Arsenal would therefore rather let him go out on loan and another club pay part of his wages rather than allow him to just sit on the bench or make the odd appearance.

Is it losing him as a squad option if we had to subsidise some of his wages? Think he'll be useful both in the EL, the cups and as a rotation player.

i'm all for it if it means it frees up cash for a january move. 1-2 buys in the right positions would be very useful

If he doesn't get game time, which he isn't going to get under Emery, he will always be lacking sharpness so is no good to the team.
I now think those "was ill" excuses last season and the "rested" one against Frankfurt were a cover-up for being dropped.
The reasoning in that article is pretty obvious to anyone as paying him to be an extra in training is a waste of those wages.

I'm working on the assumption that we wouldn't get a loan fee and we'd be paying a big chunk of that wage. Could be a few million more.

i was thinking if its moreso a loan with a clause to buy. it's clear the club wants his wages out the door. a vanilla 6 month loan would be pointless and i doubt the club would pursue it

ozil has been useless for a while now. current management aren't using him, and even looking beyond that i can't another coach making him a centrepiece that warrants what we're paying him

If they can't afford his wages now, they probably can't afford them next season either. So it's a choice between a no fee 18 month loan with us coughing up the difference, or a short loan.

I disagree that he is useless, but that's been done to death and nobody is interested in that conversation. Let's just say there are worse players trying and mostly failing to do what he can right now.

Everything will be forgiven if the Ozil of 3-4 years ago turned up.

A pretty decent Ozil has turned up since July to be honest.

Players are not machines. Being in and out of the team affects their peak performance and it's no surprise Ozil with his back problems in Wenger last couple of seasons and being dropped every other game last season contributed to his deterioration these last three years. He is our most gifted player but his athleticism is gone so can only play as a number 10 making him surplus to requirements in Emery's workmanlike midfield. Instead of making him watch videos, we should be working him physically by copying Bielsa who makes every player not selected for the first eleven play the mid-week U-23 match in order to maintain match sharpness.

Was some talk last season about Ozil looking to simply out last Emery as the club. If that was the idea then this season it's probably a step or two closer to reality - when does his current deal expire?

Arsenal are not renewing his contract whether Emery is here or not. It's Arsenal trashing his image so his relationship with the club and fans is rock bottom. He is now just a mercenary who is only here because we pay him the most. His contract ends in 2 years and I bet he is fake injured for the last 6 months before miraculously recovering at his next club (most likely in Turkey) where he will have secured another large contract as there will be no transfer fee.

He's played 2 games since July right? He was good for a half against Forrest and terrible against Watford.
