What output do you mean though? If it's because he didn't score or assist enough before, that's one of the main reasons why you have stats. To show if an attacking player is doing well regardless of how much he scores or assists.

Normally underlying stats will eventually normalise with assists, goals, etc Football statistical models aren't perfect though and I'm just wondering if something about the way Ozil plays means they are skewed for him. Chances created for example is a stat he usually scores high in but a chance created is any pass before a shot. It doesn't tell you how good the opportunity was, or how the teams set up, etc So it doesn't always match up to assists for Ozil. People have claimed this was down to Giroud not being good enough in the past but Ozil assisted far more regularly for Giroud than he has for Auba and Laca who are objectively better striker than Giroud.

If the problem is Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil and the solution is Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, then surely the question being posed has absolutely fuck all to do with actually winning football matches.

So what would you say the question or problem is then? It’s about balance in my opinion and it’s quite evident that some of our players while possessing high individual quality just don’t have the discipline or application required. Maybe he’ll figure it out and like Auba step up his effectiveness, but right now our inability to know for certain what Ozil will show up on any given day isn’t an ideal scenario

He played against Liverpool and he was pretty decent that day too.

The issue with Ozil is that he's massively off form. He had one great game this season but other than that he's been playing like Mhkitarian.

Exactly. The problem with Ozil is solved just by taking him out now and then, if need be. I also don’t buy that the first half wouldn’t have been possible with Ozil in the side.

But what you’re really saying is the problem with Ozil is that he is inconsistent and flaky. That in fact he is so inconsistent and flaky that we apparently can not afford to play him in a difficult away game, as well as a crucial home game against our biggest rivals.

For me, for what he earns, and what he is supposed to bring to this team, that means we cannot afford to keep him long term.

ozil is supposedly on £350k per week.

saying you cant play him in our toughest fixtures because he doesnt have the strength/stamina/whatever, but we can still use him in 30-35 games a year seems woefully off course. when you are devoting that chunk of money to a player, he damn well better be one of the most important players in your team and someone you cant live without.

we need 4-5 players right now for the first team. we dont have oil money. i think its reasonable to wonder if our resources would be better spent moving on from ozil and re-purposing those funds

Today it worked for us without him. On another day we might have really missed a player of his ability.

Problem for me at the moment, is that regardless of who Emery picks, there doesn't seem to be a proper balance to the team. Having his hand forced at half time, we are coming up with solutions for the moment rather than developing a consistent team.

they'd sell him if they could. who is going to be willing to pay him 350k a week?
