I think his movement could be better, or at least more persistant. We don’t have the ball for long periods I think he switches off.

Ramsey didn't get much of the ball last week or today when he came on either - there's an issue here, but I can't quite see what it is yet.

We're playing more down the flanks than through the middle, meaning that the CAM isn't seeing the ball until we are in the final 3rd,
yet we still want the 4231 so as to be able to have the 4 man forward press.

Agreed, think it was clear that Bellerin/Monreal were urged forward. At times they were well ahead of the CMs and creating overloads alongside the wide forwards. Seems Emery wants to build wide quickly and then cut back, instead of using a central/attacking midfielder (Ozil/Ramsey) to build from. They'll be encouraged to get on the ball at the end of moves and to press, but so far it doesn't seem like that role will be central to our build up play.

Though, I'd imagine that will change against lesser teams when we'll have more possession. Playing wide then back central makes more sense versus top teams (Man City and Chelsea) than it will versus West Ham and co.

That is true and i also seem to remember him getting engaged/married earlier this year.
Personally i think this is the reason he kept taking time off which i'm guessing has a direct correlation to his match fitness.
It's noticeable how weak he looks on the ball when you see clips from the past.

The guy has far too much ability to write this guy off. So far I believe there has been a change in attitude for the better as he has worked harder defensively when it hasn't gone his way in attack. Also our new hero Guenddouzi is probably afforded more space to operate as opposing teams will still be wary of leaving Ozil too much room compared to Ramsey or others in that area of the pitch.Expect it to click sooner rather than later.

Ozil is paid more, so it's understandable that we expect more from him. However, the entire team is being recalibrated after so many years under Wenger so I for one am giving most players the benefit of the doubt at this stage in the hope that Emery can improve their individual and team contributions significantly.

Ozil hasn't been good this year in at least 3 of the matches whenever he is on the ball, but Emery needs to figure out how to get him involved more. The stats are pretty telling, he is more anonymous than anything as compared to his previous seasons under Wenger.

They have a paywall but nobody who watches us regularly needs a telegraph to show how marginalised he has been this season.
Every match with him on the right wing has followed the same pattern and everyone says the same thing in every post-match thread.
Emery seems to want a ball winner at number 10 but Ramsey has been a let down as his creation skills have disappeared.
e: Mkhi is the closest alternative but is flaky as hell so Ozil has been switched back to the centre every second half.

The thing is, even when Ozil played through the middle against Chelsea or City for example he didn't have enough touches of the ball too compared to the other players

That has been true and i hope i'm wrong but i don't envisage him recovering his pre-Arsenal WC level.
He is approaching 30 and needs to learn how to play which diminishing pace/strength which is life's payback for the "easy" years under Wenger when he was allowed to skive off training all too regularly.

Yes, Mesut was much closer to his old self vs Watford.
Slowly Emery will get the best out of him, now remains sorting out Auba and Rambo. Especially the former if we plan to be rid of the latter (which I still believe to be a bad thing).

IMO the key to getting the best from our front 4 is to get the ball forward quickly, by vertical passing between the lines as opposed to hoofing it.

Against opposition that want to play high I'd be looking to release PEA asap before the space behind their defensive line closes. In this scenario Ozil needs to make himself available in space between the lines in the middle 3rd.

Against teams that sit deep we can use the flanks and look to create overloads in the final 3rd. In this scenario Ozil needs to go wide rather than stay central as it is the movement of the CAM going wide that provides the overload to draw the cover defence across.

I suspect if Ozil can get his head around the high press then we may see him in his best form going forward in the season. As it stands he is one of only 3 players to have scored more than once for us in the PL, but he's yet to register an assist.

I'd be curious to know how many of those stats came after Rambo was hooked.

The big worry for me is he looks heavy footed and sluggish, which isn't something I've seen from him before

Stinkingly good yesterday. The pass that sprung Bellers had me covering my mouth like the Bergkamp v Sunderland goal.

I read on the website before the game that Emery thought him remaining here during the international break could help him get a handle on how we are trying to play and how best he could be effective within the system, and maybe we are seeing fruits of that.

Easily our most talented player when he is fully engaged. When he is on this sort of form we are unstoppable. Long may it last.

Actually excited we're playing Sporting in Europa now. Good for Ozil to have another important game, and while Sporting aren't much these days they do have pedigree. Would love to see him put it to them.
