When Emi and then Ramsdale came into the team, you saw straight away what we were missing under Leno. It feels the same each time Laca comes in for Auba.
Laca isn’t the solution, but it’s why I’m adamant we need a striker who can drop in and play.
Absolutely. He gives a focal point to the team and allows our creative players the building blocks to do their thing.
I’ve got two gripes with his general play, which is harsh after his performance tonight admittedly. I feel he drops too deep at times and that invites the pressure on us, he needs to stay a bit further forward and give us an out. As good as his link play is, he is sometimes quite slow to get into the box and offer himself as an option. Needs a bit more drive to get into the mix if he’s dropping deep or pulling wide.
But the extra work required to improve on both those criticisms has implications for his fitness/tiredness so I suppose it’s a fine balance.
Disappointed he missed that penalty tonight as I’d have won a small bet.
