Laca starting to boss it?

Think the criticism is harsh. Their 'keeper closed the angle quickly and Laca only had a split second to react.

The bigger issue was that he took a while to get the ball out of his feet when he eventually passed for Pepe to hit the post . But the team are generally low on confidence and he's not the only one who has made simple errors of late, it's just more memorable because his are attempts on goal.

Laca has always had this inconsistency in his game though. He's not a natural finisher. The reason I think he's worth considering offloading is we know we probably have to generate some revenue to rebuild and he probably still has some decent value and his contribution to the team is not so significant that it would massively hurt us right now.

the players who i think are part of our future (next 5-10 years) are

leno
tierney (if he can ever get fit)
pepe (we're stuck with him, better get the best out of him)

ive got time to see what happens with holding, saka, willock, douzi, and nelson, but they shouldnt be counted on as key first team regulars at this point. AMN, i go back and forth. i think he needs a role and needs to master it. i guess torreira might work here, but i dont know.

everyone else in the squad can go. auba is near the end of his prime and probably doesnt want to sign a new deal unless we just give him the stupidest money ever.

laca, xhaka, luiz, sokratis, kola, ozil, bellerin...just sell and get what we can for them and rebuild the squad.

For me the only players I’d feel compelled to keep hold of/give more time are Leno, Saka, Martinelli, Pepe and John Jules

the time to sell him was the summer time. since we didn't do it then the next best time was the first day of the jan transfer window. now as more time goes by his shittyness is magnified and makes it harder to move him for a respectable fee.

His goal scoring record is even worse than Giroud’s, at least Giroud was good in the air and had good hold up play. Managed to spend nearly £50m and not improve on Giroud!

This guy used to score in France. We’ve somehow managed to take his balls and toss them in the Thames. Our front four isn’t working, regardless of configuration. They’re costing us points now. We should’ve sewn up Chelsea, Palace and Sheffield. It’s all of them. We need to create triangles and get more movement going.

I see a few problems

Pépé is still a give me the rock type of player and he needs to integrate into the offense more
we need Ozil to connect better across the frontline, not just on the left
we need additional midfield support, or someone else in place of Xhaka if he’s going to stay in defense. That means more of one of Torreira or AMN getting up to connect the offense and help build triangles more often

The signing of lacazette was a mistake. We took 3 years too long to replace giroud, and only did it because his persistent goal droughts became too damaging to continue to ignore.

Problem was, as always, we were stingy. We should’ve pushed the boat out for Bama in the summer. Then that Laca money would’ve gone into another player. Maybe a Zaha or other player. Comedy club.

We need Ozil to leave the club, which won't be for another 18 months. That will help us tremendously.

We also need a proper left winger. That's in addition to revamping Xhaka-Torreira.

Laca was an okay buy at that time to be honest. We overpayed because Lyon went public with their demands and we have chased him for such a long time. He was decent but we should have sold him last year when his stock was high.

It's always like this for big buys, you must know when to sell and replace. We always don't do it well

We signed him the same summer United signed Lukaku and Chelsea signed Morata, both for more money. They've both been moved on since. And those teams didn't even have an Aubameyang type to slot straight in. Kind of sums up how we fail to be pro-active in these things.

I disagree. With a striker, you need to buy the best of the best. Laca was always a 2nd tier guy. These guys don’t get lots of chances. You need someone with elite movement and finishing. Even in our frontline yesterday you can see that Laca doesn’t have Martinelli’s nose for the ball, nor does he have Pépé’s supreme finishing ability. We fucked up with this buy. At least if he was a great creator, then he could eliminate the need for Ozil
