Zidane has a ridiculous concentration of talent. And many game winners. If Ronaldo is off, he can always count on Marcelo, Isco, Or Ramos to Bale him out. He failed to manage the campaign when Ronaldo was out of form this season, but he knows in a two-legged Cup game, 90% of the time his team will rise on its own.
That’s the difficulty with assessing elite managers now. So many of them have such a wealth advantage. I was telling some Pep fan boys that, for me, Pep’s achievement this season wasn’t that he won the league, but rather the ease with which he won. Given his resources, he really should only have been looking at a top 2 finish.
Given our resource constraints, we need to look for someone extra special. Zidane has not proven to me that he’s that guy without a doubt. I think Allegri’s consistency in both Europe and Italy puts him in that league. While he has a domestic advantage, in Europe he does well against richer and equivalent teams.
