I don’t think the appointment will be looking at a long term ambition to just reclaim top 4. It is only right we subject the new appointee, to similar targets we expected from Wenger.
I maybe in the minority here, but I think this squad has the capability to shock a lot of people next season. We have a very good strike force, interesting playmakers, a very good box to box midfielder. Young centerbacks who are crying out to be coached properly.
Yes we lack players all over the pitch, and that will likely keep us away from challenging for the title, but Top 4? I definitely think that is doable with a few clever signings.
The main thing the new manager has to get and bring to the squad is consistency. We have far too many games where we start with a ridiculously slow tempo, as though we are still in the changing room. Games where we compete against the best, then lose to the bottom of the league. And this is just purely going by the eye test, but we must lead the league in the last years, of scoring a goal then literally conceding within a few minutes of the restart.
These things are correctable. Hopefully whoever we appoint we have a grasp of these sort of issues.
