The Guardian are saying 22 milion. And the bonuses are up to 3 milion. Is it a lot of money for a GK in today's market?

I don't think it's a lot of money for a starting keeper. It's basically what we paid for Calum Chambers four years ago. He had started ten Premier League games in his life and was the backup rightback at Southampton.

I think the days of keepers being severely undervalued are over. They're talking about close to 100m for De Gea, 70m for Alisson, 25m for Pickford and Ederson etc

19.2m for a highly rated 26 year old goal keeper with over 300 Bundesliga appearances seems like a very good deal to me.

They're still more undervalued in relative comparison to players in other positions.

A 55m euro Buffon was the most expensive keeper at the time of a 80m Zidane

Now a 100m pound De Gea compare that to a 195m pound Neymar.

Fee agreed between Arsenal & Bayer Leverkusen - Leno still needs to undergo a medical before #AFC can complete the signing, for a reported €22m (£19.2m)

This is just absurd. Correct way to do it:

Maybe, but you're finally seeing people spend serious money on keepers. Since 2001 there hadn't been a single GK signing over 20m until last year when you had 2.

Incidentally the list of most expensive GK signings seems to be dominated by italian clubs, guess they appreciated the importance of a top keeper long before everyone else.

I'm probably paranoid, but I don't like what he's saying about Torreira.

Now that I think about the timing of the Banega rumours, he might simply be the backup plan if we can't agree a deal with Torreira.

Perhaps, but I'd have thought Banega is a different type of player to Torreria.

Only in the sense that Banega is a more skillful and rounded player I think. He's so versatile that you could put him anywhere. I thought that he might be an intended Xhaka replacement at first, but it doesn't really fit in with both Xhaka and Elneny signing new deals in the past couple of weeks.

Torreira is a done deal Klaus. Banega rumors are houseboat I reckon.

No matter the inflated market or not, it is a lot of money given that its the 3rd most expensive keeper deal of all time behind Ederson and Buffon.

For someone not that special, it's a gamble by Mislintat. But seriously anyone but Cech and I'm happy already. Alisson and Oblak will cost too much and we are a Europa League team for now, baby steps.

The 3rd most expensive goalkeeper tag is slightly misleading since clubs - like Chelsea and Juventus recently - are willing to spend a couple of seasons to bring through a young(er) goalkeeper. So while that costs less money, there's a significant opportunity cost in terms of time when you compare with the alternatives since we need someone to step up and be good now. Really the success of this deal lies with our new goalkeeper coaching as much as it lies with Leno.

I don't like people accepting that we are a Europa League team and thus we should be happy with signings that are, by most accounts, underwhelming.

It's not really a question of whether you like it or not though - it's a question of getting improvements, even if they are marginal, to get back into the top four. Your concern would make sense if signing Leno would consolidate our place as a Europa league team.

I have no opinion of Leno, I remember him being highly rated and he's clearly stagnated but at 26 he could re-invent himself again. Who knows? Predicting how goalkeepers turn out is possibly the hardest thing to do in football. See: Szczesny, Lehmann, Navas etc.

Fair points. Anyway, at the very least this should spell the end of that clown Ospina and relegate a finished Cech to the bench.

Pickford cost Everton €28m + bonuses. Butland will almost certainly go for more this summer--and what's he achieved? It's a good deal for someone with Leno's resume.
