It feels like if Dortmund has quoted us £20m we’d have bid £15m. How many top quality strikers are there, and how many are even remotely available to Arsenal? We really need to stop dicking about.

Exactly. How many windows it's argued by the club apologists that no strikers were available, nobody better than giroud etc etc. , Now that a rare situation arises where one is available...we seem to be acting like a small time club.
Not that I want this guy here--those disciplinary concerns..

I'm afraid Real might make a desperate bid seeing that their season is going down the drain right now, Benzema has looked abject for more than a year now and they can't afford to rely on their wingers anymore.

I'd rather lowball Dortmund too, fuck them and their dickhead CEO. Their player is openly on strike, his team mates have spoken out in public about how distracting it is they can go fuck themselves with their valuation. Think they will have to buckle at some point too, it's somewhat of a grey area legally but due to their status as a publicly listed company they're actually not allowed to ignore offers above a certain figure/valuation

Come on get this over the line - £50m + Giroud or £55m + Giroud and Xhaka

kicker reporting they're not amused in Dortmund. Even if we don't get him I hope this at least derails Dortmund's season a bit more

I read that too, jones. They think we're conducting ourselves like assholes, which is in line with what half of the clubs we've ever dealt with are saying too.

This transfer is probably over. No need to get excited anymore. It's obvious by now that we were never going to pay what they wanted for Aubameyang, at least not after Mkhitaryan was secured. Fucking Arsenal.

I have to disagree Klaus. It's not unreasonable to go into negotiations with an offer lower than the fee given by the selling party. We're offering 50 fucking million for a player with a piss poor disciplanary record who's currently on strike, whose team mates are on record every week that this transfer circus is distracting them. It's not like we really need a striker either, only reason we're in this to begin with is because there's a bargain to be made.

The assholes are Dortmund who think they can still ask for 70m and any offer below it would be insulting. Yes the market is insane and dickheads like United or City are ruining it even further every day but that doesn't mean we should just accept a price like that, a price that would put him on a level with the best and most expensive forwards ever

Honestly I'm close to beginning to think I'd rather see him stay there and train with the reserves to hopefully ruin their morale, wage bill and reputation as a club. The righteous indignation their dickhead staff and fans in the media are blaring out is pissing me off. Probably better still to take their best player off their hands and piss all over them in the Europa

“Hey Mesut we’re going to bring in Aubameyang.
Will you sign this contract?”

“ach ja given me das pennen”

Mesut promptly signs

A few days later

“Zo whenen isten Pierre arrivingun?”

“Errrr yeah... about that Aubameyang deal...”

😆 10/10 German skills

Jones, let them know how you feel!!! But I agree with you. The other point I didn’t mention earlier is you also need to walk into a negotiation knowing your own upper limit. And don’t be intimidated into going over. If during this week, we find that our upper limit falls below their lower limit, then we can pack our bags, but we must really tease this out carefully. I’m glad we have two proper professionals plus Gazidis to provide mandate, and not Wenger our there. Makes me comfortable about the outcome either way

The thing I often find galling about our transfer policy is we are such penny pinchers with our spending despite the reality being football is ridiculously inflated so that's what the going rates are but when it comes to our own fans we aren't as bothered and fleece them for every penny because that's the market rate.

I'm struggling with this transfer because my understanding is that wage (growth) is what has impacted signing as of late. With Aubameyang having agreed to wages - that would have to fit into our model/restrictions - than who cares what we pay for his transfer when we're sitting on huge cash reserves.

No excuses IMO for not getting this one done.

No excuse except a glaring lack of ambition. People need to wake up and realise what club they support.

the only thing giving me hope is that our new execs seem competent and would be keen to get an early win. Aside from that, there's nothing this club can't make mess of, as shown last summer

City have just blown £57m on a CB and we're struggling to offer £60M for one of Europes top scorer.

"We've won two games in a row and just got through to the Carabao Cup final. Maybe we don't need Aubameyang? There's also Danny Welbeck who's returning from injury, so..."

The new appointments have found a Greek kid and gone to negotiate a big transfer that still may not happen. Still far too early to say whether they are any more competent than the old guard isn't it?

Sky reporting that Giroud to Dortmund is off.

They still work for Gazidis at any rate. This is the bloke who, if rumours are to be believed, was well pissed off when the fans didn't take kindly to what he thought was an extraordinary summer transfer window. We got some great value for our money apparently.

And with that the deal is dead. What kind of striker replacement are Dortmund going to find in less than a week?

I guess our side thinks they won't overpay , but for once we need to get this over the line. We won't get another chance in the summer.

It's blatantly club policy at this stage - someone needs to tear that down instead of expecting whoever that they send to the negotiating table to work wonders.

The best [thing] is I don’t talk about it. It wouldn’t help.

‘If something happens it happens, if it doesn’t we are strong enough to focus on the players we have.

I hate them. Ruined another window.

This is clearly not happening hah

Temp ban for Big Willie?

48 hours ago I was 90 per cent sure this would get done.

It is now 50-50. What a disaster if we don't get it over the line. Would have been a real boost to everyone (read feel good factor) to have signed Auba.

This is fake, FYI.

The deal makes sense for both Dortmund and us, it's not going to fall apart over the sake of £5-10m. They have a player who's seemingly on permanent suspension while Gazidis and co can't afford to come back empty handed.

It sounds like Dortmund's main gripe is that they want it done quickly so they can reinvest the money while we're seemingly happy to squeeze them due to their rather desperate situation. My guess is it will be done by the start of next week.

Yeah I know. I thought the 😆 in both this one and the previous one gave it away. This troll was even better than the first because his whole account was made to copy Orn with just an extra c in the twitter handle. It was easier to spot after the first time though.

It wasn't obvious because one would probably laugh if it was the real account as well.
