Liverpool can somewhat afford to do this because they have made 2 huge sales in the past few years (Suarez for 75M and Coutinho for 125M). I have been saying this for a while, but one of our big issues in the transfer market has been the lack of a big player sale (the max was 40M for Ox and before that, I guess the 25M for Cesc, Ade, Kolo, etc.). While I agree that they are proactive and so on, part of their ability to seal deals early comes from just meeting the ask (75M for Van Dijk and 70M for Fekir) in addition to quick decision making etc etc. Every other club around us (bar City) has made money off player sales (Y**ted made 80M for Ronaldo back when that was equivalent to 2 WC players, Sprs made money on Bale, Pool as above + Torres and Chelsea on Oscar, Luiz, etc.)
I suspect AW's ideology re player intuition & player development has a say, in that the more/longer they play together the better the partnerships become.
We also seldom sell at an optimum time such as Sanchez & Ozil both having their best seasons 2 seasons ago, or even the likes of Fabregas & RVP at the end of their contracts.
