Xhaka - worst buy in recent history?

Why is N'zonzi a player worth getting excited about? I dont remember anyone excited about him back when he was a simple bruiser at Stoke

I said we should get him when he was at Blackburn and Stoke. Because he was big and played for those teams under old school managers people overlooked the other parts of his game.

It has become apparent Xhaka is not capable as a single DM.
We bought him for his distribution but his positive contributions are negated by his limitations.
He has no athleticism so isn't quick enough to get into position or jump higher than his opponents. He is not well coordinated, seems wooden-legged, falls over at inopportune times and is too slow to get close enough to intercept or even commit necessary fouls.
At Moenchengladbach, he had a World Cup winning DM, Christoph Kramer, beside him so was able to express himself a lot more.
That is why i would not turn my nose up at Nzonzi who, unlike all the other players (Goretzka, for example) named, is available in January and he would free up several players (Xhaka, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ozil, etc) from primary defensive duties.

I think Xhaka was surprisingly good today, but he still produced the expected unforced error in the second half.

I'm surprised to see how deep Özil comes to pick up the ball and distribute it when he plays with Xhaka, by the way. He's done that for the last month. Several times per game he ends up as our deepest midfielder, just in front of the defence.

I think Ozil is best when he moves vertically up and down the pitch. It makes sense that he'd drop deep between the other 2 CMs, lay it off, and end up making the final pass. It's a real playmaking role when he does it, and I think it's great to watch.

We actually play quite well in the middle third. We press well, transition fairly quickly, combine down the wings to get it up to the final third, and then we turn around and pass it backward just about every time.

Consistently shite but never gets dropped. Makes you wonder about the manager's ability to judge a player's performance.

First half was the best he’s played in a while, then he ruined it with a disastrous final twenty mins. I don’t quite understand how someone capable of such sublime passes can be so bad at it. His body moves in a really awkward manner and that’s a big issue.
