It depends on which hat you're wearing. As a fan I think it's silly and, frankly, empty words - he doesn't want to be here at the moment and most fans don't want him to play. A glossy PR statement won't change that.
But you have to take into account that there's a wider audience to manage including the media, constant breaking news stories, rival teams and global supporters that all have a different view. Plus the club also have to manage the harmony of the playing squad so it's in everyone's interest that this story is managed and killed off. I genuinely have sympathy for Xhaka but there should be people around him who need to tell him what to do for the sake of his own career. Or, to put it another way, what does he gain by not releasing a statement? His pride?
From Arsenal's perspective, we have very few friends in the sports media world - recognise this and act quickly and decisively. That way the next press conference Emery can come out and say the matter is closed. He can't do that now - if anything he's put further pressure on Xhaka following his comments yesterday.
