Xhaka absolutely deserved to be abused from the moment he threw the armband on the deck, let alone everything that followed.
My view of the incident was that it was ironic cheers to begin with until Xhaka himself escalated the situation and made it most certainly about him from that moment on.
If Xhaka does that somewhere like in the Italian league for example (tossing the armband, cupping his ear to the crowd, etc), the fans would hunt him down. They would make our boo boys look a friendly bunch by comparison and I don’t think he realizes that he’s actually getting away with it right now.
On the subject of the Italian league, you have a guy like Koulibaly who gets racial abuse and doesn’t even react but somehow this guy is supposed to be vindicated for sticking it to his own fans after getting jeered for acting like a petulant child upon being hooked, on the back of yet another typically poor performance in a line of many he has put in for the club.
It is also notable that he has yet to apologize publicly for his behavior which tells me that he stands by his actions and doesn’t feel in any way remorseful.
