I suspect managers like Xhaka the man and that’s clouding their judgment of Xhaka the midfielder.

Yeah, from what I read about him seems like he's a total model pro in attitude.

But for fucks sake, even if he had Cesc's long ball ability he wouldn't be worth a place on the pitch. His long balls are not that amazing and not often enough, how the hell Wenger and Emery can not die inside every match while watching him?

Yeah, it might be something else. I thought it was supposed to be part of the Blue label but I haven't really looked at it since I got it. I know it came in a numbered bottle with some fancy wooden box with doors.

I tried that one last year. Good but obviously not worth the price (no alcohol is), also not remotely as good as other whiskys in that price range. If you're not much into whisky or can't be bothered to get into it it's definitely worth drinking for a special occasion but if you're interested you could sell it online and get like ten different bottles of single casks that are all better and you'd still have some change left.

It wasn't just the penalty, but the stupid fouls all over the pitch. The guy has no agility; he's like a training cone.

If we want to become a proper team, then our midfielders need to offer more than one quality.

If you can carry the ball and score goals, great. If you can defend and play quick passes to the forwards, great. We've persisted with limited midfielders for too long. It causes us to compensate with an extra body which then forces our forwards to drop deep.

I'm worried that Torreira is another one who doesn't have enough to his game.

Xhaka was standard.
He played at his normal level and that's good enough for Emery who gives him 90mins any time he is fit.

Torreira is the one who disappointed me in this game as i expect much better.

torreira was jogging around for most of the match, didnt look all that interested.

the midfield has functioned better without xhaka this season.

whatever he provides in terms of the occasional long diagonal he counteracts with his incredibly awful agility, poor tackling, and bad tactical awareness. hes a liability defensively because hes either out of position or he makes rash poorly timed tackles.

we should use a ceballos, willock, douzi midfield 3 at this point, or try torreira in the center of a 3. he lacks height, obviously, but hes far more agile and is a better reader of the game. assuming hes fit, which didnt seem to be the case today

Torreira, in my opinion, was playing the wrong role today; he doesn't have the athleticism to cover that sort of space, but with how we use the holding midfielder (aka Xhaka) to build attacks, I'm not sure he has the distribution to have played that role successfully today. He won't give away a stupid penalty, 10 unneccessary fouls and miss another 20 tackles, however, he won't switch play reliably or consistently find players in pockets through the lines, as Xhaka, to be fair to him, does.

God damn, the team is such a work in progress. From back to front, there's so much to work out, the balance is off all over and too many players not familiar with another yet.

You may be on to something when you mention fitness as he was not the buzzing bee with bite we are used to seeing and i've never seen him lose so many of the duels he was engaged in. Fair enough if it was only Sisoko who is one hell of a physical specimen but Son and Eriksen had it too easy in the first half.

He didn't have a complete pre-season, didn't play against the toon, came on in the last 5 mins against Burnley and half an hr vs the pool so he is not on the same level as the others.

Xhaka is one of the biggest issues with this team, he can fool people into thinking he does good for the team with his passing and long shots but his constant fouling/penalties, being out of position costs us more than he’s worth. Needs to be out of the first team.
