i've been defending the guy because i don't think he's as complete and utter dogshit as most people think. he's probably a good mid-table player on most days and top half player on some.

today though...... terrible. i'd rather we played willock and have him fail/learn. he had some good passes here and there but on defense he was so bad, disjointed our play too much. him and micky killed the game

in your dreams. hes going to be made captain and will play 50 games this season and commit countless errors. for some reason, emery just loves him to death. if we need to sack emery to get rid of xhaka, then im all for it. surely freddie watches those displays and realizes he should be nowhere near the team

Emery obssesses over the role of players, and always favors a big stodgy DLP. The xhaka era will slink along unimpressively at least for this season

Said all along that Xhaka is the level cap for this team. Our football works poorly with him, but it doesn't work at all without him. It's just insane that we went another summer without replacing him though. The day he leaves I'm going to break open a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue that I've had stashed away for years.

Im willing to try. With Ceballos and Willock our midfield is hardly the same as last season, so I say we give them a chance to see if they work without Xhaka.

With a 3 man midfield it could work, use Douzi as the deep player, will teach him some discipline.

Xhaka stepped up in the second half and brought alot of control, to be fair.

He's just a liability at any given moment because he thinks he can win every ball but his feet can't keep up.

I am one of those who think he is still useful to the team but I had enough.

Guy is just brainless and makes the midfield so slow and not agile enough in big games. We need to learn and get used to playing without him

Looking at that penalty foul again. We actually had that situation covered. There were enough defenders in the box. Xhaka just had to provide coverage on Eriksen. Anywhere else on the field and he possibly risks a red card with that lunge. He has zero sense and cannot be counted on as a leader.

I thought you meant you'd celebrate then you said you break open a bottle of fermented kool aid. Only good JW there is is the Blue Label Ghost and Rare and that's still far too expensive for a decent whisky.

There are plenty of teams that play without a Xhaka type player in central midfield. We just need someone who can sit but also isn't a liability defensively.

If you say so Jones. I'm not in the habit of drinking up three month's worth of rent in a single evening so I've never tasted it before. All I know is that the bottle is worth north of £2K. I got it as payment for a job I did a while back. Xhaka leaving seems like a good occasion to uncork it though.

Teams make poor signings all the time. You can't get it right all the time. The key is to put that right as early as possible and for some reason we just aren't moving away from Xhaka who has been a poor fit.
