We haven’t competed in it for ages. It’s been refreshing to go into Europa league games knowing we have a chance of not only winning the game but also the whole competition, as opposed to the CL games where we pick off the shit teams in the group stages and wait to get thrashed by the big teams at the business end.

I have to say I wouldn’t be that fussed if Liverpool won it either. I find their fans funny rather than annoying on social media and the ones I know irl are decent. I’m glad City are not winning it, the hyperbole over how good they are would have gone into overdrive.
United and Tottenham would be the two to induce vomit.

Yep. The Europa league is to us gooners what the championship is to Aston Villa fans.

Who do you want to win the fa cup tie between them?
Neither.
United - don’t want spurs to win anything

Fuck no. I don't give a fuck really about what most fans say but the disgusting frothing at the mouth from ex-Liverpool pundits is nauseating. I have to say though generally whatever shit outcome it would eventually be none of them are nearly as irritating as they used to be
Their manager and star player are alright. Madrid are just a putrid club, same as bayern. Roma. ...they can forfeit without showing up and it's possible nobody would care.

We all know the Europa League is the watered down version of the CL though. Yes we might seem to be doing well in it but it's just not as satisfying as doing it at CL level.
I'm just a very jealous fan tonight. We should be doing what the likes of Liverpool are doing right now. They were languishing in 6th/7th a couple of years ago ffs and look where they are now.
Wenger has really fucked us.
I wonder if this Roma result is, finally, a turning point to a long decline of the Messi era at Barcelona.
Tony Montana wrote:Mirth wrote:And roma.
Yay?
It will be Roma v Liverpool in the semis.
Roma will win that tie though. They're the better team even if Salah plays for Liverpool now. Nainggolan will be back in match shape too.
Dzeko was absolutely unplayable.
Yeah, great player. He's been playing the best football of his career at Roma in the last two years.
city have kind of skated by with me in recent years, because they generally play good football. but fuck them and their petro-dollars. i'm glad they got exposed
Whenever I see upsets like this, Roma, Liverpool...I think about how many times we played Bayern and Barca. Not once did we get past them, you would think that in 8 ties like that, we would make it past them at least once...but no, the law of average dose not apply to us. Just shows you how past it Wenger is. Can't make it in the Champions League with a team that has no tactics...

Came on to write the exact same thing. Was watching Pool and Roma last night and thinking wow - we have more expensive squads than these guys but would have no hope of ever going against these big teams over two legs and overwhelming them as we saw last night.
And if Kroenke was an actual football fan, he'd see this and end this nightmare.

Come on now.
Anyone but Madrid.
Anyone but Liverpool for me. I'll be open, most of it out of emotional self presevation. I was happy to see them draw City. Guaranteed that we would have at most one English team in the semis. Now of the other 3 teams to deal with them please. Seeing one of these teams win is just a reminder of how rubbish we are
Tony Montana wrote:Mirth wrote:Basically you don't know any Liverpool fans anymore.
I do. I'm seeing one on Saturday.
Yeah, which prison are you visiting?

I read that, and in my head I immediately questioned it (in relation to Liverpool). I haven't followed through as to approximate values, but it made me realise the cost of the squad we now have, with the likes of Mustafi, Xhaka, Ozil, Lacazette and Aubameyang. I'm under no illusions there's been money there but I suppose I haven't at any point stopped to consider not only the level of investment, but just quite how poor the return on that investment actually is.
The other galling thing is that Liverpool's dynamic, pacy and dangerous front three are all players that could have been considered realistic and achievable targets for us in terms of both profile and finance.
Klopps taken us from a team finishing 6th-8th every season to 2 consecutive top 4 finishes and a CL semi final on a negative net spend. Never want to see a graph comparing him and Brendan Rodgers again.
Countinho out broke me at the time but we're a better team now.
We've got a huge budget in the summer and Keita to add to this squad. Loving it at the minute.
Need to win something mate

Weeeeeeeeell, ask and you shall receive
Sorry (not really) to bust your bubble but... the most important stat is the one in the first box. Neither manager has won a single trophy for you.
That being said, Rodgers has a higher win % having played 40% more games. Plus you mention finishing top 4 as if it's a good thing and but didn't Rodgers actually almost win you the title. You've been nowhere near ever since.
Which almost league title are you talking about, Big Willie? Is this when Gerrard was tumbling about against Chelsea?
This one?
No. I think it might be the season they bottled a 3-0 lead against Palance in the last 10 mins he's refering to.
Claudius wrote:Which almost league title are you talking about, Big Willie? Is this when Gerrard was tumbling about against Chelsea?
That's the one. Fitting that it was Stevie Me that eventually cost them.
Edit:
Goon the one in 2014. I can't see your image at work.
Edit 2:
They both happened in the same season. The Suarez season where Gerrard slipped against Chelsea and then they lost a 3 goal lead against Crystal Palace in the final few games.
Been a rough year as a Liverpool fan I would imagine. Jamie Carragher spitting on a young girl and fans trashing City’s team bus. Nothing to be proud of
Carragher.
Been a pretty rough 28 years I'd be thinking. Since I'm an old man now, I can actually remember when people feared Liverpool a little bit.

Haha.
My plane to Australia leaves on Friday morning.
Juve 1-0 already
Such an underrated player, Mandzukic.
Legendary, Klaus.
That goal was 80% Costa. Juve's best player this season and it's not really close
Stop hating Jonesy.
jones wrote:That goal was 80% Costa. Juve's best player this season and it's not really close
I think it's hard to argue with Dybala and Pjanic, but Costa is a pure joy to watch when he's on song. He's arguably even better right now than he was for Bayern. Something about him that screams 90's or early 00s footballer.
