When teams sit back you get up getting some half chances being closed down by 2 or three guys so the chances then to get fluffed.
While when you play on the break like they do you end up getting less chances but often something like a one on one so the likelyhood of conversation is much higher.
If you ask a manager during a game how they're doing they usually list the number of chances at each end and the quality of those chances nothing else really matters.
I'm not sure we were easily better. But I do get what you're saying we played better football.
