When I see the old clips of our games from the unbeaten season and the seasons around it, I honestly can't believe how we did so well with Kolo at centreback. He was as clueless as Clichy positionally alot of the time, and absolutely abysmal in the air. I adored him at the time, and thought he was great - in his own way he was, but even at his best he'd get eaten alive in our system today. Rightly or wrongly, it's just much more demanding and puts much more strain on every single individual player, none more so than the four defenders.
Koscielny's mistakes are no doubt linked to the strain he's under, but he needs to improve his concentration dramatically. When he's fully switched on and concentrated he's absolutely fantastic, but he has too many 5 minute spells, or even just a 5 second spell, where he gets caught square on, mistimes a tackle, or throws himself in wildly, which is enough to undo his good work.
