Newly re-elected Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admits his club are "following" striker Kylian Mbappe, but says the 18-year-old is still a Monaco player.
Mbappe burst onto the world stage this season with a breakout campaign for the Ligue 1 champions, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists over all competitions.
The France international's sudden superstardom has seen his name linked to Europe's biggest clubs, with reports Real Madrid lead the line for his services should he leave the principality.
And while Perez concedes Mbappe has been on Real's radar, he cautioned that "for the moment" the player is still a member of the Ligue 1 side.
"I've seen very little of Mbappe, I know he's 18, a very good player, but for the moment he's a Monaco player," Perez said in an interview on radio station Onda Cero.
"I don't know why people say he was born to play for Madrid. ... I'll tell you if he was born to play for Madrid or not!"
He added: "I am sure he will be one of the greats and we are following him. Zidane's liked him a lot for a while, but it's not true we were close to signing him [a few years ago] because he still hadn't turned 16."
