La Liga does have good reason to intervene to be fair, they're losing one of the most marketable athletes in the world to a financially doped club. You'd have a huge precedent for foreign clubs to circumvent dealing with Spanish clubs instead simply paying players to buy their own contract out

Would be interesting to know why Spain alone has this legal construct which wildly differs from release clauses elsewhere

This was my initial reaction as well. They cannot fail against state-funded clubs when that is what they have been doing all along. And where was La Liga whenever Barca and Real were bullying little ala Liga clubs to hand over their players? Hypocritical assholes

Have to say this move is hilarious, they tried to unsettle Veratti and PSG respond and do this. No sympathy at all for Barca who for years have fucked us around and unsettled players. Doesn't work when the other club has money and a set of balls though.

Yeah, I couldn't think of a better club for this to happen to. Concerning that it may galvanize Barcelona into fixing their glaring issues, though they may also use some (most?) of this to alleviate their financial issues.

good "reason" does not equal legal grounds. and since they have now accepted the cash, they clearly realized that it wasnt going anywhere

That's pure confirmation bias. My guess is Barcelona have told them to accept the money because their board is as greedy and corrupt as it gets and also because the situation wasn't exactly tenable anymore. Don't really understand this line of thinking, everyone knows how PSG is filled to the brim with money that isn't theirs, I'm not going to pretend their financing is perfectly legal just because it's Barcelona who get fucked over
