Perhaps it comes with a considerable loan fee. Either way it indicates no one else was really in for him, which seems unlikely.

Not really, it's €5m per year plus an option to buy at the end of the 2 year loan for €30m. It's ridiculously cheap and there's no risk for Bayern. It's a very strange deal imo.

We should have been all over a deal for James ffs!

I wonder how much players like James Beattie, Andy Johnson and Kevin Davies would cost if they were in their prime today.

I doubt Kevin Davies would cost that much today. He was never prolific.

Meanwhile Swansea want 50m for Sigurdsson. How did they get him that cheap.

I'm not sure about that, you'd be hard pressed to find a player who's better with his elbows.

True the UFC would offer £30m

his form dipped quite drastically after an unreal 6 month spell

I feel James is the one we missed out on, and it was clear as day Real was looking to get rid. Pisses me right off we don't seem to have been on that case at all, and it pisses me off even more so considering Bayern gets him pretty much for free.

Considering who is agent is I don't think we stood any chance nor would we entertain doing business with him. Also despite a bright start James never really kicked on, was unable to get in the team ahead of Bale/Isco. I wonder why not many other big clubs seemed to show much interest in him either.

Yeah for 6 months the guy was literally unplayable, if anything looked an improvement on the Bayern wingers. God knows what happened then because he never recovered.

i suspect it is the same reason that Ozil buzz isn't overwhelming. i do not think that teams are looking for a frontline playmaker so much with the new formations. men like Ozil and James are perfect for the old 4 4 2 formations as they tuck in nicely behind the striker and dictate play from there. nowadays, teams are looking for more versatile forwards, and expecting some central midfield play-making capability as well.

Fully agreed. We should have been all over him. He would be perfect as one of the 2 playmakers behind our striker. Perfect age as well, just turned 26.

His overall stats at Real is pretty good. 37 goals 43 assists in 100 odd appearances.
