I think there's a case to be made that "peak Britpop" as a social and cultural phenomenon didn't work wonders either for music or Britain as a whole … even as a serious aficionado and formerly passionate fan of a lot of that music—and a person who actually paid good money for records by the now universally reviled Sleeper and Menswear, for example—I sympathise with the article but I think it's deliberately overwritten.
It was accurate in describing the Blur vs Oasis moment as an incredible battle between two "supernaturally shit" singles … both songs were far from good moments for either band.
