Feeling a bit fucked this morning. Went to two gigs over the weekend, Metronomy at Ally Pally for the first time since we saw them support Blur at a very rainy Hyde Park in 2015 and then Foals for the first time ever.
Holy fuck.
I'm sure there's the same sort of effect in play as there has been at the football this season, with people just starved of being able to have a good night out, but both sets of crowds were so, so up for it. Which turned large sections of the shows into extended singalongs almost from the first minute. We were on firmer ground with Metronomy, having spent large parts of the last decade with them and they are such a fun band to watch and dance along to.
Foals were much heavier - unsurprisingly - but absolutely brilliant. Yannis is kind of a strange frontman, there's something quite hilarious about his "we mean it man!" sincerity, but he's quite compelling and, I think, a great guitarist. The versions we got of Spanish Sahara and Inhaler - oh my God, particularly Inhaler - will stay with me forever. Or until I go senile.
Expecting good things from the new album now.
