New Radiohead album drops on Sunday. The last of the great rock bands that are still relevant. Which makes it that much more of a happening when they release an album.

They got fucking PTA to direct their new music video. 😆 Thats big time.

I am a Radiohead fan but when you say "last best band" or whatever you have to accept you've become a Dad rocker. You may not be a Dad, you may not be a rocker but you are out of touch and that's OK. Just accept it. It comes to us all. For the last month I've been mostly listening to Suede and Edwyn Collins. You can't escape your youth and trying to is sad.

I got hold of a collection of three 19C French sonatas for piano and violin lately which is just amazing. Radiohead fans should get into this stuff, it's crack.

Sunday? I thought it wasn't out until June. That's top news for us dad rockers!!

Note that I prefaced it with the rock genre. Of course it's just my opinion and there are other active rock bands that I love like QOTSA, Blur, King Khan and the Shrines, Tame Impala, Kvelertak and others still making good music, but Radiohead are in my top 10-ish of all time where the others are a tier below.

Other genres of music are pushing the envelope where I feel rock just isn't right now. That might make me out of touch and I admit I am biased but I prefer people who have strong opinions on music as opposed to the guys who claim they listen to everything.

I remember when I signed here thinking to myself this forum's average age must be about 60. Jens is def the worst culprit, think he's even younger than me but looking at his posts in this thread you'd think he's Biggus' uncle.

Enjoyed the new Radiohead album, 6 Music played it last night, but not sure I'm in a rush to go out and buy it. It definitely feels like a mood piece. I suppose most music is, but this has a very calm, peaceful vibe to it. Led Zeppelin III came to mind whilst listening and the closing True Love Waits is excellent.

My highlight was Ful Stop, it felt quite Krautrocky- that's a bit of a thing for me at the moment. The album as a whole felt like a really lovely way to end what was, for no reason in particular, a rather excellent weekend.

Me? Not listened to enough of them to make an informed judgement, but I love stuff like Vitamin C by Can and Negativland by Neu! (I have three Neu! albums).

What can you recommend me?

Neu! were my gateway drug. What a band.

I'd recommend the German version of Trans Europa Express, the big three classic Can albums (Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days), Can's debut Monster Movie, Deluxe by Harmonia, Faust IV, Yeti by Amon Düul II … actually, definitely check out Faust IV, that's an unmissable record.

If you're interested in immediate influences and successors, can't go wrong with early Captain Beefheart from the late 60s, or early Fall records from the early 80s.

Monster Movie is a good shout, not as good as the other three mentioned Can albums but I liked it as well. Not much German non-electronic music I enjoy but Can are a genuinely great band, probably my favourite German band bar Einstürzende Neubauten maybe, don't think they can be called Krautrock though.

And yeah Trout Mask Replica is a staple, can't really listen to it anymore but it's one of those records you need to have listened to at least once.

I really prefer Beefheart's earlier, straighter stuff to TMR, which is a bit uneven to experience. Van Vliet was a really spectacular rhythm and blues songwriter.

Can are an incredible band.

I actually heard of Can for the first time when Paperhouse from Tago Mago was sampled on a Qwazaar/Outerlimitz release in 2005

Production on the album ranges from DnB-ish tracks to the aforementioned Can sample, not sure if that's your (or anyone else's) cup of tea but that was an outstanding album
