on corgan/the pumpkins, i always equated him to prince, funnily enough. both were/are extremely brilliant musicians and songwriters, both had huge egos, both churned out a number of incredible hits, and both also churned out some clunkers. prince, however, was really likable because he always had that sly smirk on his face and his songs were more sensual/light, whereas corgan's stuff is gut wrenching and brutal at times. prince's high notes in his career are among the best pop songs ever written, and corgan's highs are some of the best songs of the 90s.
i personally love mellon collie, and even though there are a few clunkers on that album, it was a really ambitious effort, and there are many more hits than misses on the 2 discs. that was actually where i jumped off the bandwagon though. i wasnt a big fan of adore or machina. but even then, he was able to write a song like this that is completely amazing
