Brilliant stuff. Used to skank to that at shit house parties when there was a bit of a two tone revival right as I was leaving high school.

Even Black Est—used to love that song (well the chorus) when I was a tiny kid. 🙂

Find it strange that you and Y va would be into Ska, you kids wouldn't have been really old enough to remember it.

A few months before John Lennon was murdered he gave an interview in which he said Madness were the best band in the world at the time, which surprised a lot of serious muso's as they were viewed as sort of a teeny/fun band. 😆

Yeah, like I said there was a bit of a 90s two tone revival to go along with Britpop and the 90s punk revival, so I used to listen to that stuff.

Jebus I feel old, they had a "nostalgic revival" for the music of my youth- 20 years ago!

🙂 I don't know how widespread it was. One of my best mates growing up was the little brother of the DJ on Perth's main reggae show so he had all his Jamaican influences sorted. We probably liked the two tone stuff better because we wanted to be mods not stoners.

I remember there used to be big gatherings in Stephens Green park in Dublin for playing music and fighting between "Rockers" (heavy metalers/rockabilly/punks) on one side and "Mods" (mods/ska/skinheads) on the other in the late 70s early 80s, every youth sub culture took their identity seriously then and these were the days before social media, word just got around.

Went to see the Stranglers in 79, nobody at the supposed venue which was all locked up, walked around and met up with some friends, we gave a homeless guy some money we told him our problem and he told us the word on the street was the fuckers were playing somewhere else as "the Shakespeareo's" (Get it?) so off we trotted.

Got interested in the Stranglers briefly because of the fact bands programming Rage always, always flog Golden Brown. Don't know if it's just me, though, but they seem to have pretty few great tracks.

Nah they were in decline by then you want the earlier stuff, Rattus Norvigicus No More Heroes Black & White and Feline.
Like a cross between the Doors and the Velvet underground.

nod Yeah this was back before the era of easily downloadable music so I only had an old greatest hits collection. It had No More Heroes and some of the earlier stuff but it was really uneven.

Well thats the other thing, these days you can have a nibble here or a taste there and it costs nothing.
Back in the day you would buy an LP and play it to destruction so that would be the band you were into.

Saying you liked a song by a band outside your genre was like saying you thought Sp**s played well the other day.
