Nothing out of the ordinary to our minds - we just weren't as caught up in the cadre system and segregation of staff along hierarchical lines.

True characterisation, I suspect. He reminds me of the senior managers I had to collaborate with at a couple of huge French aerospace companies. Every one of them assumed all Australians were idiots.

🙂 Look, I knew I was setting myself up for that one.

But in a professional context where you're collaborating via conference calls at the end of the day, it's extremely tiresome to have to deal with that sort of ironclad false consciousness.

No wonder German media and government officials are praising Le Maire and the other "germanophiles" in Macron's cabinet to the skies, they don't even have to bully the French into doing their bidding anymore. We'll see what Macron will do if or when Merkel implements her "tectonic" "secret plan" in the upcoming months and deploys him as her junior partner
