Macron's been 20 points up in most head-to-head polls until a couple of days ago.

We know from recent experience that complacency is very unwise, but that's a much bigger gap than eg Leave / Remain or Clinton / Trump.

That said, with hatchet jobs like that ZeroHedge article I just reposted floating around, his numbers may well decline sharply.

How? By being more plausible and attractive than others – the best-liked and least hated politician in France, in surveys that pit him against 24 other names.

I haven't seen enough of him first hand to figure out if the impression that I have formed of him at a distance is valid. From limited viewing and reading I find him quite anodyne, slightly off.
I don't see the smooth career politician at all.

Certainly Russian and Russian-affiliated news outlets have been rabidly anti-Macron.

Find the complaints pretty funny though given the constant propaganda on behalf of his ilk in the regular press. News is propaganda, if this is "hacking" what about The Sun and the Daily Mail?

Ce qu’on vient de vivre en dit long sur ce que vous êtes. On vous demande une carte blanche et vous salissez l’adversaire, vous proférez des mensonges comme depuis le début de ce débat. Le pays vous importe peu, vous n’avez pas de projet pour lui. Votre projet est de dire “cette personne est atroce”, votre projet est un projet qui vise à vivre de la peur et dans les mensonges, c’est ce qui a nourri votre père et l’extrême droite française pendant des décennies.
