The real problem IMO is that most of the US national politicians do NOT represent their constituents. Not surprising since the US legalized bribing politicians! I mean, of course 99 percent of politicians will represent the millionaires and corporations who pay them! And the majority of Republicans AND Democrats are in favor of this system. Hence you see policies rammed through, time and again, which are directly detrimental to the US people.
Look at this clusterfuck of a 'healthcare plan' that the Republicans will no doubt get through the Senate in the end; you rip away the safety net of millions of people while at the same time give upwards of 600 BILLION dollars in tax breaks to the richest top two percent of the population. Beeing against the government negotiating prices of medicines directly with the pharma industry to SIGNIFICANTLY drop costs for the people? Well, both Republicans and most Democrats are against that, because they are ALL getting paid by the pharma industry.
The no doubt diabolical tax reform the Republicans will get to next, and the tax breaks to the richest top two percent of the population, and corporations, will get even worse. Again, because those are the guys who are paying the crooked politicians, and they are almost all crooked.
Trump is an abomination, but he is really only representing classic, Republican ideas. He certainly didn't write this healthcare plan, and he won't write the Republicans' plan for tax reform. I think it is quite obvious Trump doesn't even understand this healthcare plan, and he won't understand the finer points of tax reform either, because he just isn't very smart. 17 percent! 17 percent of the population seem to be in favor of the healthcare plan the Republicans rammed through the House, and by all accounts the Senate version is at least as awful. That's not representing the people, but they will ram it through nonetheless.
Problem is that the Democrats aren't any better really when it comes to policy. Obama was as pro corporations as they come, and so was/is Clinton. Why would ANY politician who calls him or herself a Democrat be against universal healthcare, a living minimum wage, free college education among other things? Because they are just as crooked and bought. Bernie Sanders is pretty much alone in demanding these things, and the establishment Democrats shun him, DESPITE Sanders being the most popular politician in the US in poll after poll. They shun him because they don't want to get rid of the gravy train that is their rich donors.
If the US wants to get serious about politicians who at least to some extent represent the people, then getting money out of politics HAS to happen.
