it takes real mental gymnastics to think today doesnt move the needle. comey basically said the president is a liar and he leaked to his friend so a special counsel would be appointed. in terms of what we can get in public, this is massive

But it's still based on Comey's interpertation (fair or not) of what Trump was asking. Until collusion between Trump and Russia can be proven, the only implication here is how/why Trump has been behaving with Comey in relationship to Trump's cabinets Russian involvement.

The shame is that this testimony will be taken as Trump focus, when Comey and the public should be equally focused on persecuting Sessions, Flynn, Kushner, etc.

But everyone knew that long before the testimony started. This is not about producing hard evidence for abuse of power. It's about testifying that it happened.

So Comey has presented the facts as he knew them, it's up to Mueller to determine if there was a crime?

The open session didn't drop any bombs that might annihilate Trump, I'm guessing the closed session would be more interesting.

Meanwhile Trump’s personal lawyer is focusing on Comey as a "leaker"

Wait, what? Was that part of the written statement they shared with the press before he came out? Same one where he had prepared "we will leave it to the appropriate authorities to determine whether this [sic] leaks should be investigated? No proper proofreading until after the news started reporting on it which is probably why the actual statement seemed to have been corrected when he read it out.

a couple of thoughts:

right now, you have a choice: do you believe the president, the same guy who spent years propagating the birther conspiracy, or the FBI director who has served under 3 different presidents and testified under oath?
comey made a number of comments today that indicated members in trump's inner circle are in real trouble, including flynn and sessions.
trump's lawyer's statement was embarrassing.
the republican party, especially those 52 senators, are going to be cast as villains when the story of this is fully written/digested 50 years from now. the fact that they are aiding and abetting a naive, vindictive, moronic idiot all in the name of tax cuts for the wealthy, dismantling federal regulation, and taking away healthcare from 20+ million people is a huge embarrassment and will be studied for years to come in history classes.

my country regularly embarrasses me.
